Volunteers in St. Marys have been busy wrapping presents for less fortunate kids.

Organizer Bob Roberts says they’re putting together 402 gift bundles for kids from infant to age 10.

Schools and police officers help Project Gifts for Elk County find the kids, using free and reduced lunch guidelines.

On Dec. 17, Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive in a police car to deliver presents in three towns.

“The satisfaction comes when you see the smiles on the youngsters’ faces when they get their gifts from Santa, and you know that they may be the only gifts they get for Christmas and you made that happen,” says Roberts, the Project Gifts president.

Roberts says most of the gifts, worth upwards of $20,000 total, are donated by local businesses and their employees.

Kids from Elk County Catholic and St. Marys high schools have been coming by to help wrap over the past two weeks.
