Concerns over a lack of heat at a local prison are being investigated.

 

The Centre County commissioners said they were made aware of an issue with heating at the Centre County Correctional Facility. 

 

The prison is heated and cooled by a geothermal unit, but officials say when the intake garage doors are left open, it can cause a delay in the unit’s ability to heat or cool the facility.

 

Commissioners said in the meantime, inmates can ask for additional clothing to keep them warm.

 

“If an inmate would have an issue, they would essentially notify the corrections officer and then the lieutenants on a daily basis are collecting that information, so our staff at the facility and we, certainly as a board of commissioners, empower them to assist the inmates in any way possible,” Commissioner Michael Pipe said.

 

No word on how long the issue will take to be resolved.
