New details were released today on the investigation into the Amtrak crash that took two lives.

The incident occurred at 11:18 pm on June 27 when two CSX Transportion employees were struck and killed by southbound Amtrak train 175. One of the workers is from Somerset County.

One conductor and conductor trainee were returning to their locomotive when they were struck after checking on a reported defective railcar with their backs turned to the train. Amtrak engineers sounded the horn when they noticed the employees on the track.

The Amtrak train was traveling about 73 miles per hour on the track.
