Police Questioning in Deadly Crash

SNYDER TOWNSHIP, BLAIR COUNTY – Police are questioning a truck driver who allegedly hit and killed a man on the side of the road.

State Police are still investigating the crash that killed a 44 year old man from Altoona on Interstate 99 Friday.

The man was legally pulled over to the side of the road about a mile north of the Bald Eagle exit in Snyder Township, Blair County. He was working on his disabled box truck from the On Time Delivery Company out of Pittsburgh. And police say he was standing off of the road when a tractor trailer hit him and his vehicle.

One southbound lane was shut down for about four hours while state police and their accident reconstruction team investigated. The State Police are also inspecting both vehicles and talking to the driver of the tractor trailer.

They’re still investigating and haven’t filed any charges. State Trooper Dave McGarvey says the steer clear law doesn’t apply here, but it is a good idea for drivers.

Police still aren’t releasing the name of the man who was killed. And we aren’t releasing the name of the other driver because he hasn’t been charged with a crime.
