A New Jersey man is behind bars in Cambria County. Authorities say Aaron Mack shot and killed Daron Shamburger near building four of Solomon Homes in Johnstown in December.
That leaves two 2015 Cambria County homicides unsolved. Police say Mack’s actions were intentional and they plan to use video surveillance to help prove it.
The murder was caught on cameras outside of building four. Police say a man in a gray sweat suit, identified as Mack, shot 28-year-old Shamburger twice, once in the back of the head and again in the chest.
“We do believe this was a planned and calculated murder of the victim,” says Cambria County District Attorney Kelly Callihan.
Authorities say in addition to the surveillance video they were also able to get witnesses to come forward, which is rare. The identity of each witness is protected in the criminal complaint.
“For whatever reason people are hesitant to come forward. They’re afraid for their own safety and for those people when we are able to put a case together, file charges, and put these people in jail, it seems to lighten their anxiety at least to an extent.”
In the affidavit two different witnesses identified Mack, but under different names. One was Jahlil Good, the other Shariff Ingram.
Authorities tell us they can’t speculate about a motive at this time.
According to court documents, a witness told police the shooting was over drug money owed and a previous shooting. They said an associate of Shamburger’s was the real target.
Mack was picked up on a bench warrant related to a different case. The Johnstown police chief calls the arrest a group effort, “It may be 6 months, it may be 6 years, but we never give up on a homicide investigation. It’s always an open case and we’re just glad we were able to clear this one.”
Mack is in the Cambria County Prison. He is set to be in court for a preliminary hearing June 2.
