Police chief says department needs more officers

A police department in Blair County said they need more officers, but they’re not sure if they can afford it.

Tyrone Police Chief John Romeo said the department has six full-time officers and five part-time officers, but he wants eight officers full-time.

He said Tyrone is just behind Altoona and Logan Township in the number of dangerous calls they respond to, like domestics and drugs and that they need to keep officers safe and have back-up.

The request comes just days after State Trooper Landon Weaver investigated a PFA violation by himself and was killed in the line of duty.
