After more than four hours, police called off their search along the Stonycreek River. They were looking for a body, but received a phone call and were told the man they were looking for was already in the Cambria County Jail.
“I really appreciate all of the help,” Chief Barclay said.
Chief Barclay of the Conemaugh Township Police Department expressed his gratitude after dozens of first responders and members of water rescue teams spent hours searching the river for a body. Two people called 911 earlier in the day on Wednesday after they found cigarettes, a shirt, socks, shoes, and whiskey next to the river.
“It just seemed very strange,” Jill Marsh and Lorinda Carrasquer told us. “We thought we should really call 911 and see what they think. It didn’t seem like something that could just be ignored.”
Police told us that no missing person report was filed while they were searching. After 6 p.m. they got their first lead from an individual who called about his friend.
“Through the conversations with the jail and with Ferndale Borough Police, we found that the individual that was arrested, was arrested in bare feet, no shirt, and he drank the whiskey brand that we recovered here on the riverbank,” said Conemaugh Township Sergeant James McKnight.
Police said Todd Ryan was at Greenhouse Park before he was arrested Tuesday by Ferndale Police. They are thankful for each department’s help and cooperation.
“Again thanks for everyone coming out and helping us,” McKnight said. “The good thing is we didn’t have to recover a body. We know where the person is.”
