Plans to fix problems along a major roadway in State College are underway.

PennDOT will meet with the College Heights Association Thursday night to discuss changes to North Atherton Street from Aaron Drive to Park Avenue. They want resident feedback.

They’re mostly focusing on drainage problems and resurfacing parts of North Atherton Street, but another major concern among residents – pedestrian safety.

“The drainage is in poor and failing condition out there and the roadway itself is distressed in some areas,” Dean Ball, the project design manager, said. “We need to go ahead and do some upgrades to the profile as well as the paving surface itself.”

The work is expected to begin in 2018.

“With the new sidewalk within the College Heights area, hopefully that will make the pedestrians a little safer,” Ball said. “They’re also concerned about crossing. We’ve done a lot of work on Park Avenue in association with the Borough and we’re still working on improvements there at the Park Avenue intersection.”

The meeting will begin Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. at the State College Church of Christ on Hillcrest Avenue.
