Penn State HUB to rock the vote

Penn State University plays host to the state’s biggest polling place. Election officials in Centre County have been working around the clock to ensure everything runs smoothly for voters on Tuesday.

The number of registered voters in Centre County hit an all-time high in 2016 with 123,204 people on board to cast their ballot.

Centre County Commissioner MIchael Pipe said there is a lot of excitement, “We’ve never had 100 percent turnout, but we do have the ballots if that were to happen.”

Pipe and other officials will be working hard to make sure voting at the HUB, at the University Park Campus, goes off with no issues.

“Around the county, we’ve beefed up certain precincts where we’ve anticipated higher voter turnout and high numbers in general to make sure that we have a smooth process,” said Pipe. “But at the HUB especially, since it’s going to be the biggest precinct or largest polling location in the state is we’re going to have double the amount of poll workers that we typically have to make sure again, smooth, safe and fair elections will occur.”

There are five precincts all located in Alumni Hall at the HUB, which is why that polling place is the biggest in Pennsylvania.

The polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
