The latest figures from the Pennsylvania Department of Health show 68 confirmed cases of  Zika in the state.Test results are pending on 142 people.  All of the cases reported in the keystone state have occurred in people who have traveled to areas where the virus is endemic.

Dr Evan Bell, Infectious Disease Specialist, Mt. Nittany Physician Group says the risk from Zika in Central Pennsylvania is very, very low.

“The species of mosquito is the Aedes mosquito.  There’s Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, and the latter one  is the one that’s more common here in Pennsylvania. The Aegypti, which is the one more commonly carrying Zika has made it to the southern part of the states,” he explains.

The CDC estimates that the potential range of Aedes aegypti could reach into southeastern Pennsylvania
