PA woman infected with superbug

A superbug that can’t be killed by  the strongest antibiotic developed has been found in a Pennsylvania woman. The Director of the Centers for Disease Control says the 49-year-old patient developed a rare CRE infection, which he called  “a nightmare bacteria.” It’s resistant to every antibiotic.

The bacteria have been identified in other infections outside the United States, but this is the first case in this country. According to the CDC, the woman hasn’t  traveled outside the U.S. within the past 5 months.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf says the State Health Department is working with the CDC and the U.S. Department of Defense  to respond to the danger.
