The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry announced that the state unemployment rate is on the rise.

The unemployment rate is now 5.5 percent which was a 0.2 percent increase.

That is higher than the national average, which fell to 4.7 percent.

Part of the increase can be attributed to the Verizon strike, but there were also losses in farming.
