Pennsylvania’s unemployment is falling.

Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate fell to 5.6 percent — that’s down 0.1 percent from November. Resident employment decreased by 12,000, and the unemployment count declined by 7,000. Over the year, total nonfarm jobs were up 32,000.

Governor Tom Wolf’s “Jobs That Pay Tour” continues across the state. Yesterday, Labor & Industry Secretary Kathy Manderino was in our region, visiting Acco Brands in Alexandria. The company manufacturers and supplies branded school, office and consumer products. Following the tour, Manderino sat down with local business officials about the importance of manufacturing jobs.

“It’s interesting to see how automation has improved manufacturing but there is still- its just really upgraded the need for a diverse work force with real flexibility in skills,” Manderino said.

Following the roundtable, the group toured the Pennsylvania CareerLink Building in Huntingdon.
