An officer who spent over two decades serving Blair County is handing in his badge to retire, but not for long.

Patrolman Chris Bender is retiring, after spending 26 years with the Logan Township Police Department, but Bender said on Monday, he’ll start his new job with Penn State University Police, a place that is familiar to him.

“I went to Penn State, am a graduate of Penn State. I was student auxiliary at Penn State, so I know what it’s all about,” Bender said. “I worked a few games the past two years through Logan Township for Penn State and for me, I’m a Penn State fan, so it’s complete excitement and enjoyment for me to work a game.”

Officer Bender said there will be a small learning curve, getting adjusted to the department’s policies, but said he will be using the same skills he’s developed over his 31 years as an officer.
