A Clearfield County woman is the recipient of this year’s Spirit of Nursing Award from Tyrone Hospital. Elizabeth Demko, registered nurse from Houtzdale, works on the hospital’s medical surgical unit and in the intensive care unit.
The hospital credits Mrs. Demko with contributing ideas to help hospital patients learn about their prescribed medications. She’s also described by her co-workers as great nurse who is very caring and compassionate to her patients, pleasant to work with, and a quick learner who places a great emphasis on accuracy.
The individual that receives the Spirit of Nursing Award is selected by their peers. Tyrone Hospital’s nursing department instituted the award in 2006 and grants it on an annual basis to a nurse that demonstrates outstanding performance.
