A Reade Township murder that happened last week remains under investigation, but it appears the shooter may have acted in self defense.

It’s been nearly a week since Wilmer McClellan was shot and killed at a home near Glasgow. State Police say this is still an active case. Cambria County District Attorney Kelly Callihan just released the initial findings of their investigation.

According to the report, the man who shot McClellan called 911 immediately. He has not been charged with any crime, so at this point we are withholding his name.

The man told investigators that McClellan came to his home late Wednesday night asking for help after an ATV accident.

He  said as he tried to hand a cell phone through the door, but McClellan forced his way in. He then allegedly pushed the man to floor and threatened to kill him.   This is when the man says he shot McClellan in self-defense.

A state law, known as Castle Doctrine, permits a homeowner to use deadly force to stop an intruder.

So far, investigators have not been able to find any evidence on an ATV accident and believe McClellan used that as an excuse to get inside the home.   For now,  investigators are waiting for lab results from some evidence at the scene. This should help them discover if the shooting was justified.
