It will be a night to remember as guests of the “Night to Shine” prom walk the red carpet, dance, and are served dinner.
The event will take place at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Richland Township Friday evening. It is for those who are 16 years old or older and have special needs.
The event, which is free of charge, is sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation and gives folks the opportunity to have an experience they may have missed out on.
“We want them to feel loved by our church community, by our volunteers, and truly it is our hope that this is the beginning of relationships and a way to break down the barrier of isolation and loneliness for individuals with disabilities,” says Sue Miller. Miller and her husband, Dennis, are leaders of the church’s Special Needs Ministry.
They say there will be more than 80 guests of honor who attend the event and 200 volunteers, some of which will serve as prom dates.
The prom dresses and tuxedos were donated for the event.
The Millers say the church is one of about 200 that are participating in this event Friday evening . The churches hosting the prom night are located in eight different countries and 48 states.
