It was a special day for the Nexstar Broadcasting family. Perry Sook, the founder, C.E.O and president of our parent company was honored today in New York City at the annual Library of American Broadcasting Foundation’s “Giant’s of Broadcasting and Electronics Award” ceremony. The event recognizes individuals who have brought electronic arts to prominence.

They are considered among the best of the best in broadcasting and electronic arts. Those being honored include former NBC anchor Tom Brokaw, 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft, actress Susan Lucci and Nexstar founder Perry Sook. 

Sook was recognized for his achievements in the broadcasting industry. He started Nexstar Broadcasting in 1996 with one television station in Scranton Pennsylvania. He built it into a company of more than 100 stations. That  number will grow to 171 when pending acquisitions are finalized. Nexstar broadcasts will reach 39 percent of television households in the United States. 

“All of the people here some are talent some are executives. I mean Tom Brokaw was the anchor of NBC for 30 years. These are legends,” said Larry Patrick, Library of American Broadcasting Foundation.                  

Sook said he’s humbled by the award..

“Awards are nice and great but when I get these awards I always say when you honor me you honor our 4,400 employees of the Nexstar nation and for the good work they do in their communities everyday.”

He also believes that local broadcasters should be a force for good in their communities.

“Technology may change how we do it but if we put good content out the door that’s relative to our viewers and help our local businesses grow then we are always going to be in business.”

Perry Sook has always believed that serving the local community is at the very heart of every Nexstar Station.
