It took almost two years to put together but in just the two weeks it’s been on the road, a new food truck has quickly become the talk of the town.

“We wanted something we could drive to everybody so everyone can share in lunches or meals or just great food for a low cost,” said owner and chef Kevin Schraff.

It’s called Schraff’s Mobile Kitchen.

“We’ve been blessed,” Schraff said. “You know, we’ve actually had pretty good business, ‘course we’re always welcome for more. As of the last two weeks, it’s been rough, but it’s been great.”

The husband and wife team started working together a few years ago as a personal chef business, making house-to-house stops. Then, Kevin had the idea of opening a food truck business.

“We just wanted it to be a big family business,” he said.

“Something we can pass on to our daughter whenever she gets of age,” wife and co-owner Teah added.

“Something we can give back,” Kevin said.

They did some research and bought a fully functional Winnebago 22 months ago.  They gutted it, rebuilt the inside with countertops, added a generator and painted the whole thing an eye-catching green.

“A lot of people just stare at us and say ‘Wow, what is that truck driving down the road?'” Kevin said. “And that’s what we wanted. We wanted the wow aspect via the paint job and stuff.”

Some elbow grease and $7,000 later, their dream became a reality.  They travel to businesses during the week and baseball games on the weekend, but they’re looking to make downtown Altoona their home.

“That’s one of the main reasons we decided to come downtown here was to get in with the downtown community and help promote the smaller business here and help try to bring people down to this road here and help with all the little things,” Kevin said.

“Make it great again,” Teah added.

The sub and sandwich truck operates seven days a week.  To see if they’ll stop near you, check their facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/schraffsmobilekitchen/?hc_location=ufi
