A bill awaiting Governor Wolf’s signature will crack down on people who don’t pay their Pennsylvania Turnpike tolls.
The bill gives PennDOT the authority to suspend the vehicle registrations of owners who rack up six or more payments or $500 in unpaid tolls.
Drivers would be notified in writing that their registration faces suspension.
Turnpike officials say they wrote off $5.4 million in 2016 tolls from drivers who didn’t pay, an increase of 45 percent from the previous year.
Once signed into law, the bill would take effect in nine months.
