A sewage line replacement has nearly 2,000 homes and businesses left without phone and internet service in Cambria County.

Verizon said county crews struck a cable link on Horner Street Monday, while trying to replace a sewage line. Officials say it’s taking longer to repair because the cable line contains older wiring.

About 1,800 lines are affected, including businesses like Moxham Lumber.

The president of the company said it’s really hurting business.

“Trying to let people know, use a cellphone if you have to. We are giving out our private cellphone numbers… and are calling us on cellphones,” Rick Hayes, president of Moxham Lumber said. “The majority of people after trying numerous times to call us and can’t get through are driving down to find out, why they can’t get through.”

Verizon said they’re hoping for service to be restored by Friday, Feb. 10.
