Today is the anniversary of one of the worst floods to ever hit our region.
The South Fork Dam broke 127 years ago today, flooding the city of Johnstown.
On May 31, 1889, heavy rains caused the dam to break. More than 20-million gallons of water flooded the city and more than 2,200 people died.
On this day, each year, the National Parks Service honors the people from all over the country and world that helped the Cambria County community recover from the devastation.
The Johnstown Flood Museum will have a special memorial service at 6 p.m. tonight to share the stories of several of the victims.
