One suspect is in custody and one officer is deceased after five law enforcement officers and one other person was shot in Florence.

WBTW, a Nexstar station in South Carolina reported on the situation.

According to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken, one of the officers has died.

No other details on other victims’ conditions are available.

Florence County Emergency Management officials said on Facebook around 6 p.m. that a suspect is in custody and the “active shooting situation is over.” Officials are asking people to stay away from the area as “there is still an active crime investigation in progress.”

According to Chief Deputy Glen Kirby, with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect surrendered to deputies after talking with a negotiator and has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Kirby also said a 20-year-old male inside the home was also shot and is still alive. 

Kirby confirmed around 4:55 p.m. that a deputy has been shot in the area of Hoffmeyer Road near the Vintage Place neighborhood. 

Kirby confirmed around 5:30 p.m. that three deputies and two City of Florence officers have been shot. 

According to a post on Florence County Emergency Management’s Facebook page around 5 p.m., “there is an active shooter incident in progress at this time.” Officials are asking people to stay away from the area while law enforcement crews respond.
