A man who worked to prevent violence apparently took his own life.

Jeremy Richman’s daughter was among the victims killed in the Sandy Hook massacre.

John Lorinc says that although Richman is gone, his work to save lives continues.

The Sandy Hook community is reeling from another loss.

“Apparently he couldn’t figure out the way to get himself the help he needed, it’s just awful,” said Senator Chris Murphy.

Jeremy Richman co-founded the Avielle Foundation, in honor of his 6-year-old daughter, who was killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

The non-profit focused on thwarting violence with research and strengthening the community.

“We’re going to create a curriculum to recognize the signs and symptoms of the risk factors that lead to violence and how to engender and build the protective factors that ensure compassion, kindness, and resilience,” said Jeremy Richman, father of a Sandy Hook victim.

Police say his body was found in his Connecticut office on Monday. Authorities say there are no signs of foul play.

“Mental health professionals have told us, you know, the impact of Sandy Hook, you’re not going to see the full impact of that incident until years later,” said Newtown Police Chief James Viadero. “We’re kind of looking at that now, and it’s coming to fruition.”

Police aren’t releasing details about the death.

“Compassion is the ability to feel somebody else’s suffering, to empathize, but most importantly, it’s the hope you can do something to alleviate that suffering.”

The foundation released a statement, saying “Jeremy’s mission will be carried on by the many who love him.”

“Jeremy made a difference and the foundation is going to continue to make a difference,” said Murphy.

Richman was among those involved in lawsuits against Infowars host Alex Jones who previously made comments that the Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax.

A lawyer for Jones issued a statement saying, in part, “Mr. Jones sends his condolences to Mr. Richman’s family and wishes only for peace.”
