(CNN) — May 15 is National Chocolate Chip Day!
Ruth Graves Wakefield of Massachusetts originated the chocolate chip back in 1937.
Wakefield broke up chunks of a semi-sweet chocolate bar to include in a cookie recipe. To no surprise, her creation caught on.
By 1941, Nestle was producing pre-made chips for consumers to enjoy.
