A search party to find a missing teenager was called off Wednesday afternoon.
Police said they have located the teen and believe her ex-boyfriend is involved. They are taking the case seriously because the girl is underage and the suspect allegedly took her across state lines.
The ex-boyfriend said he was with the girl in Maryland, but Bedford Borough Police said the teen was in West Virginia. Michelle Hockenberry left Wednesday afternoon retrieve her daughter from West Virginia State Police.
Hockenberry said she thought her daughter went missing around 10 p.m. Tuesday night. She said her daughter was last seen walking outside their home to her ex-boyfriend’s car. The two reportedly had a fight and the daughter was giving him his things.
A search party gathered at noon on Wednesday at Fort Bedford to search for the missing girl, but before the search began, Hockenberry got news of her daughter’s whereabouts.
She told the small search party that police got in contact with the teen’s ex-boyfriend, who is believed to be involved in the 14-year-old’s disappearance.
Hockenberry said she doesn’t think her daughter is the first victim.
“Other females that are underage have come forward to Bedford Police and to myself with their parents and said that he’s been violent with them,” Hockenberry said. “And that this just isn’t the first time.”
Police said they cannot release any additional information at this time as they are looking into the five year age difference between the 19-year-old ex-boyfriend and the girl, who is a minor.
Hockenberry said she plans on pressing charges.
