Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  It’s a federal American holiday that marks the birthday of Dr. King – which is actually on January 15th.

King was the chief spokesman for nonviolent activism in the civil rights movement which successfully protested racial discrimination in federal and state law.

King was shot and killed in April of 1968.

In commemoration of MLK Day, Penn State University is hosting the mother of slain 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Sybrina Fulton has been speaking against violence and has become an advocate for building safer communities, since her sons murder nearly 4-years ago.

Martin was fatally shot by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer in Florida in 2012.

The event will be held in the Schwab Auditorium at 6:00 p.m. Monday evening.
