Police say a man was found dead in a fiery car crash this afternoon.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. on Rockton Mountain Highway near Greenwood Road.

William P. Craig, 71, Reynoldsville, was riding a three-wheel motorcycle vehicle called a Polaris Slingshot and died at the scene, authorities said.

Bystanders who stopped their car on both sides to try to help were upset after seeing the Slingshot go up in flames.

The vehicle was burning up when firefighters arrived and it was already too late to save Craig, Lawrence Township Volunteer Fire Company #1 Chief Elliott Neeper said.

“I’ve never seen aything like that around here. I have no idea what really happened, but it’s really odd to see something like that,” says Christopher Smeal, who was stopped in traffic.

Craig was driving east on Highway 322 when he went across the lane, off the side, and the vehicle rolled over, ending up flat on its wheels again, Coroner Michael Morris said.

Police have not determined what caused the accident.
