Drivers were asked to avoid Interstate 80 eastbound after a multi-vehicle pileup, Thursday morning.

As of 6 p.m., only one lane remains open.

The crash happened around 8 a.m.. Blowing snow did cause white out conditions. One of the vehicles involved in the crash was a tractor trailer hauling beer.  Cases of Budweiser spilled onto the highway.

A total of 59 vehicles were involved in the pileup; 22 of them were tractor trailers.

The Red Cross worked to set up shelter to keep people warm and some were bused to the Clarion Hotel in DuBois.

First responders from three different counties responded to the crash and the Salvation Army in Punxsutawney provided food and water to those workers.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has lifted the speed limit restriction that was in place on I-80 westbound between exit 161/Bellefonte in Centre County through Clearfield County at exit 97.

Due to the winter storm impacting the region earlier today, the speed limit was reduced to 45 mph on this 64-mile stretch of I-80. Speed has been restored to its usual posted limit.

PennDOT is continuing to treat roadways in the area and will continue as severe weather moves through the region. PennDOT will reinstate speed restrictions on roadways if conditions warrant that change.
