Crews from six different departments responded to a fire along Ogle Street in Ferndale Borough, Cambria County, Monday afternoon.

The West Hills fire chief tells WTAJ that preliminary results show that the fire may have started with something from the kitchen that was burnt and put out onto the side porch

Three people live inside the home.  Everyone made it out safely, thanks to the mailman.

“The mailman was coming by, actually saw the fire from the outside, and pounded on the doors to get the homeowners out.  That mailman probably did a fantastic job at saving lives today,” fire chief Don Blasko says.

Blasko says that there was heavy fire damage on the first floor of the home.

“There was some water damage to the interior.  It actually ruptured some of the water lines and it caused flooding down into the basement, but the crews got the water shut down with the help of the water authority.”

The fire marshal was called to the scene, but officials do not believe the fire is suspicious.
