The community came together to say goodbye to an area first responder, Friday.

“He was well known in the community. You couldn’t ask for a nicer person,” Jim McConnell, captain of Warriors Mark-Franklin Volunteer Fire Company said. “I mean, he was nice to everybody. He’s going to be missed. These next couple days will be hard not only for the family but for the community.”

Mark Catherman passed away unexpectedly Monday, at the age of 56.

Family, friends and fellow first responders paid their respects at the Warriors Mark United Methodist Church in Huntingdon County.

“Personable, easy to get a long with, took care of other people more sometimes than himself,” Elmer Nearhoof, a retired assistant fire chief said.

Catherman served as president for the Warriors Mark Fire Company in Huntington County for the last 25 years and was a member there for 40 years, joining at 16-years old, following in the footsteps of his father.
He was also involved in many community activities including a community baseball team.

“It’s going to be hard to fill his shoes to keep things going smooth,” McConnell said.

Catherman was laid to rest at Burkett Cemetery in Warriors Mark.
