Woman safe after storm uproots trees around home

MARTINSBURG, BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Driving around Martinsburg and North Woodbury Township, you’ll see some tree limbs on the side of the road. However, two houses in the area were hit harder than the rest after Tuesday’s severe weather: the Butlers, whose stories we shared on Tuesday night, and Veda Welch.

She was home during Tuesday’s storm, but didn’t hear any of her willow trees come crashing down.

“Yeah it’s quite, quite the mess,” she said.

Her trees were 65 years old, and needed to be removed, but the severe weather took many of them down, and left behind the mess.

Although she devastated about her trees, Welch said she’s grateful that nothing was damaged, and nobody got hurt.

“The house didn’t get hit. My sheds didn’t get hit. There’s people that die in things like this, so I’m lucky,” she said.

Welch added friends and family members are coming over to help her get rid of all the trees in the next few days.
