All eyes were on the skies in Blair County Friday.
World War II aircrafts could be seen putting on a show in Martinsburg all afternoon.
It’s the Wings of Freedom Tour, which gives you a chance to get up close to a piece of American aviation history.
Planes like the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, Consolidated B-24 Liberator, and North American B-25 Mitchell helped the U.S. win World War II.
And 60 years later, they’re still flying!
But it takes about $4,000 an hour to keep them in the sky.
“It comes from the donations of people coming out to see them and they also give rides in them. And all that money goes back into the maintenance of the airplanes and the cost of the fuel and so forth to keep them up in the air and they are quite expensive to maintain,” explained Airport Manager Gary Orner.
The Collings Foundation out of Boston puts on the tour.
