When it comes to making wine, it’s in the family for Mount Nittany Vinyard and  Winery.

Nestled at the base of Mount Nittany, owner Linda Weaver says  the reality of a successful business  started with her father’s hobby in the basement.

“They planted the vinyard thinking they would just supply the grapes to local wineries but then they decided to go in the business and open commercially in 1990,” she told us.

Since then, the business has expanded.

“We have a new lable and tha’s prompted by the fact that we are now in groccery stores outside our tasting room, so we want the lable to be attractive,” Weaver expalined.

The winery is now selling it’s product in select Wegmans, Wise and Giant groccery stores as well in the state stores.

Professional wine maker Scott Hilliker has been with Mount Nittany Vineyard and Winery for four years.

“We’ve got some really great feedback from the compitition and we have won many different awards for a lot of our wines,” he said.

Most recently, the winery won an award for “Best Dry Wine” in Pennsylvania at the PA Winery Association compitition in March.

You can sample the wines at the Mount Nittany Tasting Room.
