Windber Borough will host its 17th Annual Miners’ Memorial Day Festival this weekend.
The festival is sponsored by the Eureka Coal Heritage Foundation to honor the town’s ties to the coal industry.
Borough leaders said the festival attracts thousands of people each year and showcases the Windber community, which is making a comeback after the coal industry died.
“I was born and raised here. Coal is finally coming back and I think it’s a great way to honor the miners that are still working and the ones that passed away,” said David Petrunak, the Eureka Coal Heritage Foundation vice president.
The festival starts Thursday evening, June 15 and runs through Sunday, June 18.
There will be car shows, food vendors, a parade and fireworks.
