Heavy rain on Monday affecting location for today’s ceremony.
Earlier we spoke with the Memorial’s Superintendent Stephen Clark to hear what will factor in their decision.
“We’re evaluating where we’re going to have the observance on September 11 on Tuesday,” said Clark. “Because even right now there’s standing water of 2-3 inches which by itself wouldn’t stop Tuesday’s ceremony but the steady rainfall in the region on Monday could change plans for the ceremony’s location, given it’s in a lower lying area. The challenge is the surface. Standing water 5-6 inches…How do we pump it out? How do we put some type of a gully of sorts to try and help drain?”
Clark remains confident that the message of there ceremony won’t change.
“No matter where it is, we’ll work through it,” said Clark. “But in the end we’ll come together as a nation and as the world and honor all of those who their life on September 11.”
This year’s ceremony will include an appearance and speech by President Donald Trump.
