With the heavier traffic on Wednesday and the weather making the commute more dangerous, officials warned travelers to stay alert.

“This time of year, with everybody going different directions, there’s gonna so much traffic on the roadway with the shoppers, sportsmen, people going to holidays, and families. Leave with enough time and enough patience that you don’t let the situation get the best of you and create a bigger situation,” said Blair County Sheriff James Ott.

Sheriff Ott said that was just one way to improve your safety. He also reminded drivers that if the weather got bad enough that you do not feel comfortable driving, find somewhere you can pull over and wait it out.

“Whether its a rest stop,a restaurant, a service station, somewhere where you can safety stay and kinda wait it out,” Ott said.

Local officials also reminded everyone that if they are planning on drinking on Wednesday or during the holiday weekend to make sure that they have a designated driver or a different plan for getting home safely.
