Water authority switches to solar power in Centre County

The University Area Joint Authority has switched to solar power, which will save money and help with sustainability.

The UAJA began planning for the solar project last March, now the facility is running on solar panels that stretch nine acres.

“7,686 panels to be exact. Making it the tenth largest solar array in Pennsylvania,” UAJA Executive Director Corey Miller said.

The energy is used for the plant’s sludge processes, disinfecting systems and advanced water treatments.

Miller said Pace Energy paid for the $7 million project, and they can benefit from a tax credit. The water authority can buy into it after seven years.
