Weight loss is a common New Year’s resolution, but when it comes to slimming down, experts say diet is more important than exercise.

The average person burns just five to 15 percent of their daily calories through exercise.

Exercise also increases your appetite.

According to Harvard Medical School, a 185-pound person burns 200 calories in 30 minutes of walking, which can be undone by eating four chocolate chip cookies or one-and-a-half scoops of ice cream.

Experts say exercise is important, but a healthy diet is more important when you’re trying to lose weight.
