The Johnstown Walk of Hope, just as the name implies, gives hope to families who are battling cancer. All the money raised goes directly to people who get treatment in the area.

The 2nd Annual Johnstown Walk of Hope will take place on Saturday, June 3rd at the Greater Johnstown High School Trojan Stadium.

Last year, around 750 people attended and raised $25,000. This year, they’ve already raised more than $26,000 and are expecting 1,500 people to attend. There will be music, food and games all day long.

The money raised goes to four local organizations including the UPMC, Conemaugh and Joyce Murtha Cancer Centers, as well as the Children are Precious Fund. The money helps patients with transportation, food, hotel costs and medications.

The woman who organized the event, Marlene Singer, said many families are impacted by cancer, including her own.

“I’ve had skin cancer. Cancer has been prevalent in my family, like many other families. This is just a way to support families who have been affected by that. And believe me there are a lot of people who feel strongly about continuing this effort, the Johnstown Walk of Hope,” said Marlene Singer, the event’s chairperson.

The walk runs from 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 3. People are invited to attend at any time throughout the day, whether they stay for one lap or one hour.
