Volunteers are needed this weekend for a cemetery clean up in Altoona.

Richard Powell volunteers his time and mows the lawn at the Oak Ridge Cemetery along 10th Street.

He’s planning a clean up day this weekend to spruce up the area and says the cemetery can’t afford to pay for up keep and that he does his best to care of it.

“A lot of veterans in here, we try to keep cleaned up,” Powell said. “Trees fall, we need to come in and cut them down and it’s all volunteer.

“Our last storm me and my brother Derek we were probably here until 10:30, 11 o’clock at night just cleaning out the roadways here.”

Clean up will start at 10:00 on Saturday, and Powell says if you have a mower or weed whacker to bring one along.
