SAXTON, BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Area firefighters will gather Monday to honor and say goodbye to a 73-year member of the Saxton Volunteer Fire Company.
Bill Kelly, who was 92, was active in the company until the past year. He joined the Saxton department when he was 19 and served as fire chief, safety officer, and EMS chair. In 2018, he was honored as the oldest active EMS provider in the Southern Alleghenies Region.
Members say his mark on the fire company and the region will be everlasting.
His funeral with be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, at 1416 Dudley Rd, Dudley, PA, on Monday beginning at 11. A funeral procession will course from Dudley to Saxton Volunteer Fire Company then pass by Bill’s house on Spring St., before reaching Bill’s final resting place at Granview Cemetery. The public is encouraged to line the streets in Bill’s honor.
