We’re feeling the effects of the government shutdown in central Pennsylvania.

Some people traveling as far as California didn’t get to see much of the Flight 93 Memorial when they came to visit. That’s because no one is available to clear the roads and sidewalks due to the shutdown, and they had to close the main gate to the Memorial.

The park’s restrooms and Visitor’s Center have been closed for the past 20 days, but the grounds are open.

“We wanted to come by because this is part of our history…this was a momentous day, so we wanted to stand here and see where this happened. It was a big deal,” said Scott Eckersall, from Chino Hills, California.

“A little surprised that this place is closed, given everything’s that is closed. You would think something like this would be open,” said Larry Goyda, from Forest Hills. “A memorial would not be closed.”

Because this place is closed for safety reasons, officials say it won’t reopen until the roads are clear and the ice is gone. Because there’s no one to do it, it will have to be done by mother nature and considering the forecast, this memorial could be closed for a while.
