A local veteran is giving back to other veterans with a little something to keep them warm this winter.

Robert Bailey dropped off more than 1,200 pairs of socks to the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home Wednesday.

He started donating socks four years ago.

While he was Christmas shopping, he found out the one thing the veterans needed were socks.

With the help of his wife and friends, he started collecting donations to bring to veterans every Christmas.

“This time of year, around the holidays we have a lot of people in the community that turn out and give gifts but this one’s pretty special, that’s a lot of socks,” said Sam Dunkle, the Deputy Commandant of Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.

“When me and my wife started this, it took a lot of great people to get it this far and I’m hoping it just keeps in growing,” said Bailey.

It certainly is growing. Bailey started four years ago with just 110 pairs.

Wednesday, he dropped off exactly 1,232 pairs of socks.
