ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — The used book sale at the Altoona Area Public Library is back and the bargains are waiting.

“Years ago we had a gentleman who came to us and bought a book for $0.50,” Helen Gorsuch, from the Friends of the Altoona Area Public Library, said. “At the next book sale, he came up to me and told me that he researched the book and he was so excited because the book had been printed in a strange way and was worth $100.”

Volunteers put on the book sale twice a year.

All the money raised goes to the library. It helps them continue their unique programming.

“It brings the community together,” Jennifer Knisely, the executive director at the Altoona Area Public Library, said. “Sometimes people come in who have never been in our library before and we’re able to awe them with all the items we have here and the services we provide.”

If you’re looking for a new read, you might want to stop in. You just never know what you’ll find.

“We have some rare books,” Gorsuch said. “We have book dealers that come from Pittsburgh and they go through the books and select the ones they want so we have a variety of different people that come buy books.”

Friday, April 26: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. 

Saturday, April 27: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Monday, April 29: 9 a.m – 6 p.m.
