One U.S. Marshal was killed a while serving a warrant in Harrisburg.

At least two other officers were wounded. The suspect in the shooting is also dead. 

The officers were taken to the hospital Thursday after an incident around 7 a.m. on the 1800 block of Mulberry Street, according to Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo.

Police are not releasing any information on what happened leading up to this situation at this time.

Harrisburg Police and Dauphin County Quick Response are in the area of 17th and Mulberry where they are try to clear a home where they think a suspect may be.

Right now, there is a person of interest in the case, however, officials are not identifying that person or releasing any information on their connection to the incident.

Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse released the following statement in regards to Thursday’s shooting.

“Harrisburg mourns the loss this morning of a U.S. Marshall who died protecting our residents.  While serving a warrant as part of the U.S. Marshall’s task force, three officers were shot, including a Harrisburg police officer, who was wounded, bravely returned fire and critically injured the gunman.

 

An investigation is underway and Harrisburg police are cooperating with federal and county law enforcement officials.

 

No words can adequately express the sadness we feel at this moment as we contemplate the loss of yet another law enforcement officer in the line of duty. I extend my sincerest condolences to the family of the slain U.S. Marshall, to his colleagues and to all law enforcement officers who risk their lives each day to protect and to serve our city and our nation.”
