A healthcare merger that could affect three hospitals in our region is closer to reality. UPMC and PinnacleHealth say they’ve signed a binding integration and affiliation agreement.
UPMC owns more than 20 hospitals including UPMC Altoona and UPMC Bedford Memorial. The healthcare giant, headquartered in Pittsburgh, would gain seven hospitals in the Harrisburg area, if the deal goes through.
Also, the partnership could impact J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, an affiliate of PinnacleHealth System
The affiliation is expected to be finalized in early fall, pending regulatory review.
A statement released by PinnacleHealth said together, the health systems “will bring expanded healthcare services and advanced quality initiatives to patients across central Pennsylvania.”
