Tyrone police raise funds for K-9 officer

Local businesses in Tyrone continue to help their police department get a new K-9 officer.

One of those businesses,Exposed Grafix Printing and Embroidery, sold T-shirt along with baked goods for the cause during the town’s Christmas parade on Friday.

It takes $25,000 to pay for the canine and its training.

The Department also will need to upgrade its patrol car for the dog

Tyrone Sergeant Jason Hollis said the community was overwhelmingly supportive of their efforts.

“The community really supports us and supports this effort because I think they realize just how big of an asset that the dog is,” Sergeant Hollis said.

The canine will be used for public relations, drug detection and patrol in the community.

The department is halfway to its goal, and hopes to have the funds by the end of January, so the canine and its handler can start training in March.
