A Glasgow girl with a love for painting has a big dream.

Claire North-Smyers noticed she had quite a few paintings. That’s when the 8-year-old got an idea.

She and her mom took to Facebook and started auctioning them off to local charities.

“I just thought it was a nice thing because the people who work there might not have much money to do what they need to do,” Claire said. “I want to give them money so they can buy all the supplies they need.”

This is where Brayden Rydbom comes into play. The 7-year-old saw one of Claire’s designs online and decided he too wanted to give back.

Brayden emptied out his piggy bank and made an initial bid of $80 to help kids at the Child Advocacy Center of Clearfield County.

“I wanted to have money for a lot of kids,” Brayden explained. “I didn’t just want to give money to one kid. I wanted to give money to a lot of kids so more could be happy.”

The post got a lot of attention and people started adding to Brayden’s bid. It eventually got up to hundreds of dollars, the most Claire has ever made on a single painting.

“What was like $5 or $10 dollars quickly turned into $600,” Mary Tatum, the director of the Child Advocacy Center of Clearfield County, told us. “When you realize it’s a little boy and a little girl that raised $600, that’s huge.”

Claire has raised around $2,000 from her auctions and has donated to 15 different charities.

She has no plans of stopping anytime soon.

“I like to set an example for other kids to do good things,” Claire said.
