A group in Johnstown is teaching people how to have a green thumb.
Vision 2025 is hosting a Tree Tender certification class on Saturday, September 30 to teach people how to plant and care for small trees.
The course is offered through the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and Penn State Extension Urban Foresters.
Vision 2025 received a $50,000 grant to conduct a study of where 25 trees should be planted around the city.
“Community assets like greenery and your rivers are really important to folks. Our ability to attract people to the community has a lot to do with how we look. Trees definitely help us look good,” said Wally Burlack from Vision 2025.
The trees will be planted starting in October. Vision 2025 expects to receive another grant to plant 50 more trees in the spring.
